YMCA Edinburgh team take on abseil challenge to support young people in Leith

YMCA Edinburgh staff member Mike Kerracher will join youth volunteers Charley and Raissa in a charity abseil down the Port of Leith Distillery on Sunday 10 May, raising funds to support the charity’s work with children and young people in Leith.

Charly and Raissa are youth volunteers with YMCA Edinburgh’s Friday Night Lights programme, and have been actively involved in supporting younger participants and creating a positive, safe space each week. Their commitment and leadership are a great example of the impact young people can have within their community.

The challenge builds on the energy and inspiration shared at YMCA Edinburgh’s recent AGM, where attendees also heard from young people involved in the Cables Wynd House Youth Residents Forum. The group has made significant progress in improving local housing conditions, including producing a human rights–based housing report, engaging peers through school sessions, speaking with council leaders, securing lift repairs, and contributing to plans for improved green space in the area.

Funds raised through the abseil will support YMCA Edinburgh’s programmes, which reach over 250 children and young people each year.

YMCA Edinburgh will continue to share updates on the challenge and its wider work through its website and social media channels.
