Everyone at YMCA Edinburgh is incredibly proud of our Chair, Donald Macdonald, who has now set sail on an extraordinary 6,200-mile leg of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
Taking on this global challenge after early retirement — and with no prior sailing experience — Donald is the definition of courage and determination.

His journey, which began on April 28, will see him travel from Seattle through the Panama Canal, across the Caribbean, and up to Washington DC as part of a crew of mostly novice sailors.
This adventure also carries deep personal meaning

It’s a poignant tribute to his late father, with whom he once shared a challenge to visit places around the world — including the Panama Canal.
Along the way, Donald and his fellow crew members are raising funds for UNICEF, supporting young people across the globe.
From all of us at YMCA Edinburgh — we’re cheering you on every mile of the journey.
